COMPANY

American Innovation.
American Manufacturing.

Prieto was founded with a simple conviction: the United States should lead in next-generation battery technology. We are still delivering on that mission.

Dr. Prieto didn’t set out to start a company. She set out to solve a problem. As a scientist trained at Bell Labs, she learned to think differently: start with the “home run,” then work backward. And everywhere she looked, across industries and applications, she kept running into the same limitation: batteries. “If you want to hit a home run,” she realized, “you figure out how to build a better battery.”

That insight, born in a university lab at Colorado State University, became the foundation of Prieto. Amy and her team didn’t just want to invent a better battery chemistry. They wanted to build something that could actually be made, at scale, in America. So, from day one, they designed around manufacturing. They built the battery around the process, not the other way around.

The process they chose was water-based electroplating, a well-established method used across industries for decades but never applied to batteries. It’s low-cost, scalable, and runs at room temperature using widely available equipment. It’s also the key to everything that makes Prieto’s battery different: the compact size, the fast charge, the performance in extreme cold and heat, and the safety profile that lithium-ion simply can’t match.

Today, Prieto is emerging from stealth with a sodium-ion battery that charges in under ten minutes, operates from -70°F to 200°F, produces no thermal runaway, and can be manufactured domestically at a fraction of the cost and timeline of conventional battery production. With an $88 million facility coming online and a team that has been quietly solving the hardest problems in battery manufacturing for over fifteen years, Prieto is ready.

Prieto's Leadership Team

Mike Rosenberg

Mike Rosenberg

Chief Executive Officer

Mike brings more than 30 years of experience commercializing breakthrough clean energy and environmental technologies, including a decade at Ballard Power Systems, one of the world’s leading fuel cell companies, and CEO roles at Novinda and OPX Biotechnologies, where he led the company through an acquisition by Cargill. He joined Prieto in 2020 with a clear conviction that sodium-ion batteries represent the next major shift in American energy.

Amy Prieto

Amy Prieto, Ph.D.

Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Amy Prieto is a Presidential Award-winning electrochemist and the inventor of the patented battery architecture that drives Prieto Battery. A professor at Colorado State University, she has dedicated her career to advancing battery science, with a focus on practical manufacturing and domestic production.
